Is Jeremiah wrong when he says to talk about your religious faith?

Didn't Jesus say to practice your piety and righteousness in secret? I know extremely religious Jews and Christians who never talk about their religious faith with anyone other than telling people they belong to that particular religion or faith... I think one of the 12 stones of Israel is modesty, not bragging about your achievements and not asking for recognition for every little thing good thing that you do...
