Is Confucianism dead in China?
Confucianism has been dying a slow death in China ever since CCP grabbed power in 1949. Initially Mao declared Confucianism a reviled cult that reeked of bourgeoisie mentality. Talking about Confucianism values were banned for a long time. Decades after Mao's death, the CCP despots reinvented Confucianism only to reinterpret Confucian principles to suit its own narrow agenda. The example of Confucian principle of harmony is the most evident example of this. Harmony in China has today come to mean suppression of free speech and imprisoning anyone who opposes the oppressive policies of CCP. Confucian principle of love, peace, harmony and humility is dead in China, only the name remains; and remains the convoluted representation of Confucian principles to suit the CCP ideology.
